A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday sentenced a 30-year-old man, Taiwo Adelabu, to one and half years’ imprisonment for drug trafficking.

Adelabu who was arraigned in the early hours of Monday, pleaded guilty to trafficking in 2. 8kg of cannabis sativa.

He was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a count charge of sale of Indian hemp.

After the defendant’s plea, the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, asked the court for a stand down to enable review of the facts of the case.

Justice Oluremi Oguntoyibo consequently stood down the case.

On resumption, the prosecutor tendered several exhibits to establish its case against the defendant.

He urged the court to convict the defendant based on the evidence adduced.

In its verdict, the court found the defendant guilty as charged.(NAN)

Oguntoyibo ordered that the sentence should begin from the date of the defendant’s arrest (December 6, 2018).
