Six suspected thugs were arrested on Wednesday by the Kwara state police command in connection to attacks on some politicians.
According to the police command, the thugs were allegedly involved in a clash between supporters of Kwara south senatorial candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) Lola Ashiru and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opponent, senator Rafiu Ibrahim on Tuesday.
In an interview with newsmen, spokesman of the command, Ajayi Okasanmi, who informed about the death of four persons and scores of injured supporters during the clash, warned that political thuggery would not be condoned in the state.
He noted that anyone found guilty, would be dealt with according to the law.
Meanwhile, the two major political parties have been trading casualty figures of their supporters over the incident in Ojoku, Oyun local government area of the state.
In a statement, the PDP chairman for Kwara state, Kola Shittu condemned the thugs’ loyalty to Kwara south senatorial disctrict of APC, Ashiru and the attack on its members and supporters in Ojoku. The state public secretary for APC, Folarin Aro claimed that two of its supporters were killed and several injured.
Okasani has assured of commitment to ensure safety of the lives and property of the people of Kwara state.
”Manhunt for the remaining fleeing suspects has since begun, while discreet investigation of the incident is ongoing.
”For the umpteenth time, the command is restating its commitment to the safety of lives and property of the people of Kwara State.’’
He further warned that unlawful possession of firearms as well as other dangerous weapons will be met with superior force and arrested suspects will be made to face the law.
